Casa di Verde’s location will be a good base for you to explore the very best of Western Crete. Chania town, located at a 15min drive from the villa, claims the title of the island’s cultural capital. Make your way through its colorful neighborhoods to visit the most important sites, such as the Venetian harbor, the Archaeological Museum, the lighthouse and the covered market, and gain an understanding of how the city’s multilayered history has unfolded. Chania’s hinterland claims the award for the most spectacular mountain and coastal scenery. Away from the crowds, the sweeping beauty of the island will captivate you. Head for the White Mountains to cross some of its dozen limestone gorges – of which Samaria Gorge is the longest, best-known and most spectacular. Follow rugged coastal paths along the south coast and visit the laid back coastal resorts of Sfakia, Loutro, Frangokastello, Paleohora, Sougia, and Elafonissi. At a very short driving distance from the villa, explore the beaches of Platanias,  Agia Marina  and Gerani. Further west, explore the post-card perfect Falasarna and  Balos for crystal clear waters and shimmering sand. Take leisure drives through the countryside, dotted by picturesque villages, farm land, chapels and scattered ruins.
